Looking for any clues on how to read the location from KU 379. Left is the crash and arrest time of the airman in question. Right is the location, barely readible: L.P.M. ie3 25?/43. How can I connect this to a spot on this planet?
This is the picture of the KU 379 with its limited info. |

Re: Detail on KU 379 sought
First step would be to provide us with the date of crash.

Re: Detail on KU 379 sought
Hello Shadowfax,
1st Lt Durakov was the navigator of the Fryer crew. Their B-17 F 42-5913 (see MACR 828) crashed due to a mechanical failure at the village Slek near Echt in the province Limburg, Netherlands. Source: verliesregister_1943.pdf . The MACR database has the wrong loss date 10 Oct 1943. Regards Leo |

Re: Detail on KU 379 sought
Yes, the plane crashed in Slek, a small hamlet. The crew however landed many miles further North. So the actual location on the KU should point to where Durakov landed with his parachute.
The MACR does not reveal any clues on where the airmen landed. |

Re: Detail on KU 379 sought
Leo, the MACR 828 has "20 Oct 43" as does the KU page as shown above so yes 10th is wrong .

the entries 1441 and 1529 on the left side are numbers of telegrams and have nothing to do with crash and arrest times. The right entry L.P. No.103 25?/43 relates to the confirmation of the Fortress loss, not to a crash location. Regards Leo |
