"Fighters Defending the Ardennes" by Peter Celis

I can't find much information about this - no links to a publisher.
The cover looks pretty interesting though and there are some preview pages on fb.

Re: "Fighters Defending the Ardennes" by Peter Celis

I received my copy of this book yesterday and I am very pleased I bought it!! Peter Celis is Belgian and I believe he is or was a F-16 pilot. He published a book a few years ago "Runways to Victory" which was about the various airfields in Belgium used by the Allies and was an excellent production.

This new book is loaded with nicely reproduced images illustrating the various Allied types that were involved in air operations over the Ardennes. There are a lot of photos that are new to me. The coverage of 9th Air Force units especially the recce units is very welcome a lot of new stuff that I have not seen: P-38s with forward looking cameras under the wings; A-26s with additional gun pods; lots of P-51s including TacR P-51As; P-47s; P-61s; Spitfire XIVs, Typhoons etc

As Ed West would say "enjoy"

Thumbs up Re: "Fighters Defending the Ardennes" by Peter Celis

I have just received "fighters defending the Ardennes" and I highly recommend it. For who owns "runways to Victory", the top quality of the text and photos is no surprise but the fantastic profiles by Johan Wolfs are a powerful boost. Well done guys.

Re: "Fighters Defending the Ardennes" by Peter Celis

Translation (Dutch to English) of a book review by Frans Van Humbeek of Celis' Fighters Defending the Ardennes from the the Hanger Flying website

excerpt
"The first part of the book is primarily a photo collection of aircraft that came into action in 1944-1945. We get to see images of abandoned German aircraft and war infrastructure at airports such as Asch, Bierset, Chičvres, Florennes, Le Culot, Melsbroek, Sint-Truiden, etc. The author pays as much attention to the work of the mechanics as to the pilots, for press photos and small personal photos, for tents and castles. As a reader, you can watch images such as those from the maintenance of the P-38J 'Mary Rose' for a long time. Despite the very detailed captions you can discover a whole story in the razor-sharp photos, often made in extremely cold winter months. The book makes the reader look for details in the rich photo selection. They are not just stories about technology. For example, deep human concern can be read on the faces of a 474th FG crew leaving the briefing room before departing for a dangerous mission above the Ardennes."

Softcover, but it will certainly be a worthy addition to your library.
Highly recommended.

I am reading it and it well deserves a 'Job Well Done'!

Dramatic pictures (with sharp captions) with great profiles.

"Celle" and Johan Wolfs made it.
