Question Re: USAAF Pilots Who Scored Victories Over The Hungarian Air Force

Gentlemen,

It was known that John J. Voll, leading USAAF of the MTO with 21 air to air victories to his credit had flown missions over Hungary and had been credited with two Bf-109s shot down. Were they from the Hungarian Air Force or from the Luftwaffe?

Sincerely,

Edward L. Hsiao

Re: USAAF Pilots Who Scored Victories Over The Hungarian Air Force

Over Hungary, it is impossible to identify Voll's possible opponents for sure. As I told you in many cases, there were there were multiple claims in the same area (not like in his last claims case). Especially 2 July, 1944 is a very messy day.

As for the Me 210s, the cited Squadron Signal book is very short on operational history and contains significant errors. 5/1. lost 4 crashed and two emergency landed plane on 13 April, 1944, see it in this book in page 31 (Hungarian) and 127 (English):

Edward, you may also consult the two volumes of Hungarian Fighter Colours, written by György Punka and myself, published by MMP Books in 2014.
