Johann Krug in SCW
Hello,
I'm looking for info on a Johann Krug, a German volunteer in the Nationalist Air Force (not Legion Condor).
Is there anyone with more info on this pilot? Best wishes/Håkan

Re: Johann Krug in SCW
Any chance that Johann Krug was from Austria or Switzerland? Or even US citizen with German family background? They may have labelled him simply as a "German" for his family name and background although he was not German citizen. This could explain why he was not in the ranks of Legión Condor.
The browsing of Spanish websites of SCW gave no result on J. Krug. It seems that it is difficult to dig info about him. Some expert historian with much knowledge on the pilots of Aviación Nacional might help. |

Re: Johann Krug in SCW
Hello,
I agree that Johann Krug can be of another nationality than German, the only note I have is a secondary source from Aero Journal 23 (i.e. I don't have the magazine myself) that states he was a German. Best wishes/Håkan

Re: Johann Krug in SCW
Just a curious finding: the JG 26 (Luftwaffe) ace Hans Krug had in his plane the motto of García Morato: Vista, suerte y al toro which is a somewhat direct reference to SCW - just a coincidence or a tiny possiblity that Hans Krug = Hannes Krug = Johannes Krug?
Edit: Johann Krug may have been in fact a Portuguese volunteer pilot Augusto Krug: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtop...47086#p1947086 More info about him (in Portuguese) and a photo can be found here: http://viriatosmilitaria.blogspot.fi...o-do-ar-4.html - if the language is a problem I can post a English translation here. More info (in Spanish) about Portuguese volunteer pilots - "Os Viriatos" fighting at the Nationalist side can be found here: http://www.requetes.com/viriatos.html However there is still some puzzle to be solved - according to Portuguese info above Augusto Krug started to make operational flights only since August 1938 - thus the air victory claim of 27.12.1936 can not be attributed to him although it was certainly his Fiat CR 32 which was hit by enemy AA on 14.8.1938...
