Ju 88 G-6 C9+AC Hans Leickhardt --> W.Nr. known?

Hello,

Is the serial number of Hans Leickhardt's Ju 88 G-6 with Morgensternantenne known? On the only known photo (afaik) the W.Nr. cannot be deciphered.

I am asking since I am trying to figure out the W.Nr. block of a Ju 88 G-6 with a very similar camouflage pattern than Leickhardt's machine. Knowing C9+AC's W.Nr. would help me narrowing down the serial number block.

Roger

Re: Ju 88 G-6 C9+AC Hans Leickhardt --> W.Nr. known?

Hello,

Is there any proof that Major Leickhardt ever flew this aircraft ? I could find nothing to this day. Only the fact that he was the Gr. kdr. of II./N.J.G. 5 is not a single proof. I hope perhaps anyone have more ?

Rgds,
Kaczmarek

I don't know if he ever flew this aircraft.

The old LEMB Ju 88 G-6 W.Nr. database gives W.Nr. 621832 for this aircraft. But as source a book from Kagero is indicated, which is probably not a bullet-proof source.

Does anybody have any information about 621832? Could this be the corret W.Nr. of this aircraft?

Roger

Re: Ju 88 G-6 C9+AC Hans Leickhardt --> W.Nr. known?

Hi Roger,

WNr.621832 might be a good candidate for C9+AC. Its camouflage scheme appears similar to that of the following machines as revealed by photos:

• 621790, --+--, unknown, Neubiberg
• 622126, 4R+PP, 6.II.NJG 2, b. Fl.Horst Illesheim
• 622186, D5+AC, Stab.II.NJG 3, Müller, AirMin 33, FuG 218 Neptun, Grove
• 622322, U5+NT, 9.III.KG 2 then V.NJG 2, Brunnthal

It appears that the above were finished in overall RLM 76 over which were applied large mottles of RLM 75. An application of either a highly lighted RLM 76 or white was applied in large irregular patches on the fuselage top and sides, and, the tail-rudder assembly. Subsequent machines had their uppersurfaces finished in overall RLM 75 over which was applied a net- or mackerel-like scheme of lightened RLM 76.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

David
