The incident on 27.3.1919 when Lt Hutton died of injuries was in DH.9A F987.
His pilot was Lt R Burgess who was not injured in the crash.

Thanks for the useful update. This quite confirms that Lt. Hutton died due to the crash at Vaals. Newspapers indeed wrote that the co-occupant was not injured.

Air Force List Casualties has Lt Hutton William Douglas Campbell "Killed" 28 Mar 19 - I accept these dates are not always accurate . I accept accident on 27th - Only issue is did he die that day or day after"
