Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Hello Michael,
This is what I found in J.PRIEN's book "Jagdgeschwade 1 und 11": Uffz. Helmut Heckes - 12./JG 11 - verw. nach Luftkampf Pe-2 gerammt, Absturz bei Dukodowa, FSA. (190A-7,ro.19 + |)(643938 built by Fieseler-Werke in Kassel). So no loss recorded for 10./JG 11. Hope its usefull, Greetz, Dirk |

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Dirk, Thanks for that information. It could be I/JG51 or SG10 that had FW-190's shot down during that time period. 10./JG11 had 2 of 3 claims that could be verified during that time period but they were also claimed to have been shot down.

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Hello Nokose,
please note that I./JG 51 was equipped with Bf 109G-6s at the period you are talking about. The only part of JG 51 flying on Fw 190s in June 1944 was Stabsstaffel/JG 51, but according to Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen they have not lost a single aircraft to enemy activity during the whole month of June (only 5 Fw 190A-6s "ohne Feindeinwirkung"). http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/jagd/bstjg51.html Hope this helps, Ota |

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Ota, Thanks for the info that still leaves SG10 but that probably is unlikely. Here is what I have (Thanks to Adriano Baumgartner for the info on Groupe Normandie-Nieman) Groupe Normandie took off in 2 waves (1st 21 Yaks and 2nd 17 Yaks) at 20:00 hrs (Moscow) to protect the Soviet forces crossing the Beresina River. The 2nd wave was jumped by two FW-190's. The 1st Yak-9 hit was Asp. George Lemare (who's heavy damaged Yak made it back to base). Oblt. Paul-Heinrich Daehne made a claim at 19:45 (grid 95 554). The 2nd Yak-9 attacked was Asp. Jacques Gaston (KIA near Slavini/Bohr). Lt Walter Jahnke made a claim at 20:05 (grid 95 493). Asp. Gael Taburet and Lt Andre Taburet then attacked the two FW-190's who made the attack and shot them down.
In the area Asp Maurice Challe shot down a FW-190 SE of Dokoudovo, Asp Robert Iribane and Asp Jacques Caseneuve one FW-190 each S. of Dokoudovo. Asp Charles Miquel shot down a FW-190 near Orcha he was in turn shot down east of Orcha. Gefr Herman Barion shot down a Yak-9 at 20:06 (grid 05 373). Miquel survived the crash. I'm not familar with the light situation there at that time but it appears only 10./JG11 claims had merit unless SG10 had losses. Thanks, Michael |

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
"Normal" Schlachtfliegers tried to avoid contact to enemy fighters afaik.
On the other hand, exactly for 26.06.44 there are 2 claims by SG10: Ltn. Heinrich Starke, 9./SG 10: Jak-9@ 08 213: 200m Uffz. Hand, 8./SG 10: LaGG-7@ 95 287: 200m Concerning JG11: The whole III/JG11 was in the area acc. to http://www.ww2.dk. And they had 3 losses in June acc. to http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/jagd/biiijg11.html So, the french claims might be connected to III/JG11. |

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Hello Yogy, DDT posted the only loss for this day from Dr. Prien's book on JG1 and JG11 which was a ramming with a Pe-2. That leaves only 2 left for the month unless a future JFV has updated info. SG10 could have been doing Jabo service at this time since that's what Groupe Normandie was suppose to be protecting from happening.

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Thanks to Matti Salonen for giving me the one loss he had for SG10. It wasn't in the area of the dogfights. 26Jun44 Stab III/SG 10 FW-190F-8/R1 (Wnr. 930483) grune 1, 20 km Sudoestlich Witebsk, Pl. Qu 06 77, Nach angriff Wolkenbank durchstoss, von verband abgekommen, Bruch 100% FF Major Helmut Leicht (Gruppen Kommandeur) Vermisst. Unless some one has something else that appears to be all.
Thanks, Michael |

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Nokose, the Yak9-claim by Lt. Starke (9./SG10) would fit, wouldn't it?

Re: 10./JG11 losses on 26Jun44 Eastern Front?
Yogy, Lt Starke's claim was at 09:20 and Uffz. Hand's claim was at 07:55. The mission time for Groupe Normandie was at 20:00 (Moscow) and the first attack by Oblt. Daehne was at 19:45 (Eastern Europe). I'm kind of sure that it was 10/JG11 that caused the losses for Normandie. I just don't know how light or dark it gets for that region at that time of the year for that time. JG11 could have done fast diveways on being attacked which might have gave the French pilots the impression that they had shot down the FW-190's.
