Different "convoys", autumn 1943

Hi,

Is there a difference between the “Convoy Skipper”, “Convoy Cloak”, “Convoy Patrol”, Convoy Burner”, “Convoy Review”, “Convoy Multiple” as described in the duties of ORBs ? here n°341 sqdn in Perranporth airfield, autumn 1943.

TIA

Bertrand H

Re: Different "convoys", autumn 1943

They wouldn't be codenames of individual convoys, would they? Like ANNEX or UNTRUE were codenames for convoys in the Mediterranean in 1944.

Yes Nick certainly codenames for convoys but I have not been able to match codenames with such convoys.

If you have specific dates and locations you maybe able to find the appropriate convoy(s) using these two resources. Given that they are named rather than numbered they sound like Royal Navy rather Merchant conoys:

In the Med the RAF seems to have given a codename to convoys that also had a normal serial number such as UGS 40.
