JG 54 Airfield Vitebsk, Oct. 1943
My father, he died in 1994 was OFW and figther pilot at that unit and that time and based at Vitebsk. He was the Katchmarek of the Ace Otto Knittel During a dogfight of Okt. 15 he disappeared. The "Verlustmeldung" is false, that´s approved by historians. Due to his prisoner file I got from military archive in Moskow he was brougt the same day to a prisoner camp which lay nearly 1.000 km south of Vitebsk. That cannot be true when I remember all teh material I collected.
Is there anyone how has knoledge of what happened at that time in that area. Thanks in advance for any arrow in the right direction. Hans W.
