BoB actual scores

About 10 years ago, someone published in Air Pictorial (?) a short article with tables comparing the propaganda-inflated official scores of the fighter units having taken part in the BoB and the actual claims he had been able to dig up.
Could anyone send me a copy of this article?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It may take me a day or two, to find and scan but can do.
If I have duplicate copies then I will be glad to send you one.

Hello CJE

Could it be this article published in Aeroplane Monthly : "Battle of Britain Top Guns" by John Alcorn?

I'm sorry. Having lost this material a long time ago, I can't say exactly where it came from.
The excerpt looks like what I remember.
However, I'd most grateful to those who can send a copy (hard or scan) to me.
You, French, must know my e-mail or my postal address.

Re: BoB actual scores

Hello
I would like to draw attention to the fact that John Alcorn revised his original conclusions (published in AM Sept 1996) in a new article published in Aeroplane Monthly July 2000. We had a long thred on those articles and the validy of their conclusions a while back (a year or a couple of years ago) on this board.
CJE, I don't have a scanner but if You cannot get the copy of the newer article anywhere please notice me and I'll send photocopies on the article by snail-mail.
Juha

Re: BoB actual scores

Indeed, Juha is correct, the article (little difference between both versions) is based on a fundamental error in understanding of statistics and thus very much misleading if not entirely wrong.

Re: BoB actual scores

I have the article in question, and it isn't that detailed that it allows one to analyse Alcorn's method. That is the reason why I made only a brief mention of it in my forthcoming book on the Battle of Britain (see link below).

Obviously you have access to the more extensive material which Alcorn used to arrive at his conclusions.

It would be interesting if you could please specify his fundamental error in the understanding of statistics. (Maybe that could be useful for the English edition of my book.)
