WWII ALUMINIUM COMPOSITION

Dear all

I am looking for the composition of aluminium on German aircraft, during WWII, similar to the attachment (US Aluminium), but for German produced aluminium.

Thanks for your assistance .

Re: WWII ALUMINIUM COMPOSITION

The German aircraft industry used a lot of this:

Re: WWII ALUMINIUM COMPOSITION

If bauxite is the mineral used for producing aluminum, then nearly all of this was mined in Dalmatia and Herzegovina during the war plus a little from Serbia. The Organisation Todt oversaw the mining operation.

Re: WWII ALUMINIUM COMPOSITION

Hello Gilles

Since copper was in short supply in Germany, a lot of metalurgic research was done to find an acceptable or better substitute to duralumin, to be used in structural parts. The result was a family of aluminium - zinc - magnesium alloys, plus stabilizers. These alloys were however only used toward the end of the war.

Another alloy often used was the Elektron (aluminium-magnesium) for molded parts.

Bonne journée !
