I wish someone published a book containing the original tests reports on the Whirlwind.

That is assuming such reports still exist. With just two squadrons operating this aircraft and an operational shelf life of 3 years, very little has been written on this type so something is better than nothing in my opinion

Chris: They definitely exist at the PRO. For some perverted reason, thus far no book has reproduced them or even quoted them at length. Thus far the best source has been an article in Aeroplane Monthly in the mid-1980s. It definitely used those A&AEE reports. Years ago much hoopla was given even in this forum to Niall Corduroy's book on the Whirlwind, but it proved to be a gross disappointment with minimal coverage of the engineering, handling and performance aspects.

Rob Bowater's book on 263 and 137 Sqns is also purely an operational history of the Whirlwind so the door is open if anyone wants to write a technical book/any publisher wants to publish it!
