Mission 554 and 229 the same Wiesbaden?
Hi,
in my researches for attacks on the Wiesbaden Erbenheim airfield, I found data that i do not understand. There was on 15 AUG 44, a Mission 229 to Wiesbaden Airfield, the same day I find a Mission 554 with the same data? How can that be? Are there different Mission names for different BG's taking part in the raid? Also I found a Mission 224, 1944-11-10 388BG with 17 a/c attacking , well on the 1944-10-11 was a Mission 709 (445th BG)with a 105 a/c(. Looking at the 388BG Website I could not find a Mission 224. May there be a number switch 1944-11-10 and 1944-10-11? Can anyone help me please, I am loosing the oversight.. Thanks Dirk |

Re: Mission 554 and 229 the same Wiesbaden?
Bomb groups typically numbered their own missions sequentially starting with their first mission. The 8th AF also numbered missions sequentially. So on August 15, the 8th planned mission number 554.
http://paul.rutgers.edu/~mcgrew/wwii...ml/Aug.44.html For the individual BGs that flew the mission, it would not be their 554th mission but they would record it with their own (individual) sequence numbers. As an extreme example, if a brand new bomb group flew that mission and it was their first mission, they would call it mission 1. Last edited by RSwank; 6th March 2019 at 13:13. |

Thank you very much! Now it makes sense. I thought that all are on the same numbers.
