Re: Information concerning loss of Obergefr. Heinrich Nurnberg - Nachtjager - 24/25.04.1944

Hi Rick,

Checked the Balss book (NJ personnel losses) and no one of this name is shown for 24/25-April-1944 which is probaly down to the lack of info. for 1944 losses. The Sterbebild says following heavy combat over South Germany (RAF raid on Munich) he was killed landing at his home base. It goes onto to say he is buried at St.Dizier. The NachtJagd War Diaries say 11 Bf110's of II/NJG1 took off from St.Dizier this night, so there is a possibility this airman was a gunner from II/NJG1. This is only from clues on the Sterbebild and would need confirmation if there is someone with further info. to offer,

Regards

This loss is new based on the sources I have, including the books from Mr. Balss. Very interesting. Of course the books are 10-15 years old now and certainly more information has come to light since then, as would appear to be the case here.
Khorat = Michael Balss? If so, then even though via this forum - very nice to put a name to the username.
