Lookin for info: Crash of Herbert Altner (8./NJG 5), 9 September 1943

Gentlemen, I am looking for the Werknummer of the Bf 110 G "C9+BS" in which Lt. Herbert Altner of 8./NJG 5 crashed on 6 September 1943 during a ferry flight. Also, is it known how many kills Altner had on his score at this time?

Cheers,
Christian

Lookin for info:Crash of Herbert Altner (8./NJG 5), 9 September 1943

Hello Christian

I was only able to find the following loss of NJG 5 on that date.

9 September 1943: Bf 110 G-4 (W.Nr. 5437) of 2./NJG 5 suffered explosion in right wing over Stendal on non-combat flight, 40%

Note that this is an aircraft of 2./NJG 5 and not 8./NJG 5. I can add that he had recorded two victories by this time. Hopefully someone else can add more about the aircraft he was flying on 9 September 1943.

Horrido!

Leo

Hi Leo, thanks for the info. Initially my information came from "Zwischen Leipzig und der Mulde. Flugplatz Brandis 1935-1945" by Stephen Ransom. Maybe 9 September 1943 is the wrong date, as Ransom let some inaccuracies like these slip through in his book..

At this time Herbert Altner was an Ofw., not a Lt, and he had two victories (scored on 19 Aug 42 and 19 Feb 43). His third victory was on 9 Oct 43.

Re: Lookin for info: Crash of Herbert Altner (8./NJG 5), 9 September 1943

Some amendments reading more accuratly his log-book it seems that some "Einsätze" were real op.flights other not, so the one of the 5.sept. was one his 50., but not the 6.Sept. one, could hv to do also with what is really counted as an op. against foe, when you see it or...

Next the 51. on 8.th oct. the 52. on 9.oct where he scored by day a B17 Ssomething like his 3.victory

Sorry

Remi
