Question JU88 crashed Hampshire 21/10/40

I am researching the last flight of JU88A-5, 8116/ 9K+BH, of 1/KG5.

It left Orly airfield near Paris, but its route is not known until it arrived at Brockworth, Gloucestershire bombing the aircraft factory. It then attacked the airfield at Old Sarum, Wiltshire before being brought down by two Spitfires of 609 Squadron in the Milford on Sea area.

The crew of four were al killed. The were;
Gefriter Franz STADELBAUER born 23/01/1918
Unteroffizer Max SCHOLZ born 29/05/1917
Unteroffizer Ernst WILHELN born 170/2/1919
Oberleutnant Max FABIAN born13/10/1915

I would be greatful for any information about the aircraft, crew, unit or airfield to assist with my research.

Regards Del.

This is a very well known incident and there are many photos-I have photos of the 2 609 pilots debriefing on their return and wreckage which was picked up by the Sqn. I am afraid that there is little else to report on this incident and there is a history of KG 51 (not KG 5 as you wrote) but little is mentioned as to what was yet another loss by this unit. It crashed and exploded at Manor Farm Field, Black Bush, Milford on Sea by the way

Re: JU88 crashed Hampshire 21/10/40

Hi Guys,Been trying to find out more about this one myself as live only a few miles away.It seems that the land that plane crashed on is now to be dug up for a gravel pit to get said gravel out from under the farmland.Thus is there any of this plane still there and what will now happen??I have walked the whole area for 3-4 hours today and found only a golf ball!I think it was a surface crash as there is a picture I have found of a section of the plane with RAF men who shoot it down.Any info will help as if there is anything there I feel that as soon as work starts it will get lost with the gravel even if it is only small bits.Many thanks in advance.
