Oblt. Günther Götze and Uffz. Karl Kulke, 3./JG 54

Hello,

I have a question, please...

1.2.1943 did not return the pair of Fw 190 from 3./JG 54 with pilots:

Oblt. Günther Götze, deputy commander 3./JG 54, Fw 190 A-4, W.Nr. (14)5790, yellow 4 +, 100%, Schlüsselburg (E of Leningrad), missing.

His wingman, Uffz. Karl Kulke (Kulka), Fw 190 A-4, W.Nr. (14)5785, yellow 12 +, 100%, Schlüsselburg (E od Leningrad), missing.

There is a photo of an airplane, Fw 190 Götze, after an emergency landing that is slightly damaged.
And who is looking at Soviet soldiers.

What happened to Götze?
Was he shot by Soviet soldiers?

Or was he captured and died in captivity?

What happened his wingman Kulke (Kulka)?

What's the cause?

Flak or Soviet fighters or engine failure?

Type of action: Free huntnig or alarm start or combat action?

Thank you in advance for the answers.

Hello Gaston,

according to JFV Vol. 9/III these pilots were shot down by flak. In this book are no more answers to your questions. The Werk-Nr. of Uffz Kulka’s Fw 190 A-4 was 5732 (= Namentliche Verlustmeldung), not 5785.

Regards
Leo

Hi Stig,

in the Gen.Qu. loss return 4 Feb 1943 item 108 is listed the WNr. 85. Somebody has completed the 85 to 5785.
In the JFV Vol. 9/III loss table is listed the WNr. 5732 - gathered from the NVM - with the footnote 92: „Die WerkNr. der Maschine lautete in der Namentlichen Verlustmeldung WASt wie hier 5732, in den Verlustmeldungen des GQM dagegen 7085.“ Here the 85 is completed to 7085.

Leo

Re: Oblt. Günther Götze and Uffz. Karl Kulke, 3./JG 54

Thanks Leo

It seems the digits 85 then is not actually referring to a WNr at all (or perhaps the GQM scribe had a really bad day? )

NVM is usually more reliable so WNr 5732 feels very much correct.

Again Leo, very greatful for many outstanding answers to me!!

Cheers
Stig
