368th FG Losses 13 Oct 1944
The 368th FG lost several P-47s in the area of Geilenkirchen. I can track Capt Schulte in his P-47, 42-27243, MACR 9533. But who were the pilots of MACR 9534 + 9535. One pilot (unknown MACR) named Elliott went lost that day as well. Was this one engagement in the same area?
Capt Schulte's wingman made the following statement: " We were bounced by FW 190s. They were coming straight down from above, so we started a turn to the left. But one managed to rake his guns through Capt Schulte’s ship. His plane started to smoke and he called out: They got me boys, I am bailing out. He jettisoned his canopy and jumped. I lost track of him, but saw a parachute floating down later on. I presumed it was Capt Schulte and that he got down all right." 2nd Lt Waren L. Dewkes Joerg |
