Heinkel HD38 Photo?
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of what I believe to be a Heinkel HD 38 at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/384341697030...4AAOSwaIVhHoq1 Has anyone the full registration? Is the machine shown D-IHUX perhaps? Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
D-IHUX was Heinkel HD38C W.Nr. 17255 that was serving with 1./136 in February 1935.

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
I have D-IHUX several times as Ar 66 from Flugbuch entries and a W.Nr. 17255 did not exist for the HD 38.

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
Luftwaffe took on strength 12 HD38/He 38. It is referred to as the He 38 at least from early 1935 and onwards. All delivered befor 30 September 1934.
W.Nr. F.63, F.64, F.79 (D-INYH) and F.81, all delivrered by Arado. Heinkel production was He 38 W.Nr. 368, 369, 385, 386, 387 (D-IXAH), 388, 389 (D-IQYV) and 390. The source used for these W.Nummern is very strong. All these aircraft could be operated on wheels or floats as necessary. From another source I have also W.Nr. 17254 as D-IPIL and 17255 as D-IHUX, both as HD 38 aircraft. I must admit that I am on thin ice here. The He 38a prototype I have as W.Nr. 320 D-1609. Comments please. |

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
Hi. From what I can see, if the letter betweeen the two men is an 'X' (which it looks like) then it cannot be the final letter - not enough space. Unfortunately the sellers mark hides quite a bit but it appears as if there is an a letter partially visible between the man on the right and the tailplane for which 'H' is a likely match.
There is an HD 38c, D-IXAH, listed in the old LEMB Stkz Database and which was originally D-2340. Mike |

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
I have D-IPIL as Fw 56 WNr. 927 with Aufklärerschule Hildesheim 1936/37 from two different sources.

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
Thank you Tony. I believe I saw these W.Nummern in a document with the
W.Nummer/civil code and assumed that it was the factory aircraft number and never even thought about the engine. There you see how easy mistakes can be made. Do you happen to have a W.Nr. for D-IPIL as well. |

Seaplanes
I had D-IPIL from a flugbuch but sorry no c/n for this one, I had the engine no. though D-IPLI was later used on a Fw 56 and then on an Ar 66 Tony |

Re: Heinkel HD38 Photo?
Hello,
Thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to respond so far. I would like to ask a follow up question. Were any of the He 38 still around anywhere by September 1939? Thanks also to Nick Beale for moving this thread.I'm very grateful. Regards, Clint |
