Re: Bf 109s on eBay. 13/01

Hi gents,

OK Jim, He flew 4148 during his brief Balkan campaign, displaying 21 victories, the last one he got over Canturbery. Hence his Tally is shown on fin including LC five ones.
If so the 17 victories figure we can see on the said picture shows us his plane just after 7/9/1940, that is a couple of days after his arrival in Stab II./JG 27.

That is: most probably http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=4625 is the said plane still wearing the early 1940 Camouflage.
And http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=1562 is most probably the same plane but wearing the late camo.
Note the old model of safety jacket, and, of course, that picture isn't taken in Larissa but in France; Mechanical fatigues don't match with Grece period and weather anyway.

Cheers, Franck.

Re: Bf 109s on eBay. 13/01

I think you may be correct Franck. The 2 photos seem to be from 2 different times - it's too bad the 2nd photo isn't as crisp as the first. It may be the same camo scheme, but due to the different lighting....the thing that suggests different times/days are things like the upturned collar on the kapok lifevest and 2 groundcrew without caps in the 2nd photo vs. the one in the first. It's weird the things we look for, isn't it?

Re: Bf 109s on eBay. 13/01

Hi there Franck,

Thanks for this rich haul!

4. Is "Schwarze 6" one of the Erla built all-RLM 76 Bf 109 G-6 like the ones depicted at the factory in Autumn 1943?

Bonsoir Marc,

It's a Bf 109 E Marc, look at the air scoop.
No, it's during the first stay of II./JG 27 in Bönninghardt in April or Mai 1940. 5./JG 27 stood alone between 9/5/40 and 15/5/40.
Camouflage is the early 40 one.
I suppose many of the II./JG 27 pictures in this batch have been taken in Bönninghardt.

Salut, Franck.

Elevator position are different as well as shadows. Could mean 10 minute difference but not necessarily a different day. No other reference points - prop, wheels, markings, trees, background.

As Jim said - you look for every difference!

Hi Mark,

Sorry, what are you talking about?
When I try the link given by Marc I just get a production line in factory.
Anyway, place is writing on back of picture... Bönninghardt. Two pictures in this batch got this writing. Both II./JG 27.
What else?

Regards, Franck.

Re: Bf 109s on eBay. 13/01

Sorry Franck

Referring to photo 5 and 2023 and your links to the two photos of Lipperts Bf109E after by the side of the field.

Trying to establish if they were taken at roughly the same time.

regards

Mark
