Claims by Wildcats from HMS Pursuer 12 Feb 44
Hi,
During escort of convoy MKS.40 on the 12 February 1944 four Wildcats from HMS Pursuer claimed one He 177 and one FW 200 as destroyed and one FW 200 as damaged (http://www.historyofwar.org/articles...S_Pursuer.html). Which pilots made these claims? Thanks in advance, Peter |

Re: Claims by Wildcats from HMS Pursuer 12 Feb 44
I only have the two destroyed claims.
At 1915, Sub/Lt(A) Norman Kenneth A Turner (RNVR), 881 Sqn, FW-200, in Wildcat V JV418 K At 1930, Sub/Lt(A) Thomas Laurence Marsland Brander (RNVR), 881 Sqn, He-177, in Wildcat V JV429 N Both: CR: ADM 199/840-46; DSC cit Does anyone know Turner's full name? Enjoy! Frank.

He177 JV429/2N S/Lt TML Brander 881 Sq
I can't find other Fw200 claims in Air Britain's FAA Aircraft of WW2. EDIT: Following Frank's posting, JV418 is given as 5K of 881 Sq at this time. As JV392 is given as 5H at this time, 2N appears to be a doubtful code for JV429, unless it was an 896 Sq aircraft. |

Re: Claims by Wildcats from HMS Pursuer 12 Feb 44
Hello,
No 'A' (other than in Norman), in Turner's name. Brander and Turner awarded a DSC: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...6537/page/2497 Col. Last edited by Col Bruggy; 7th July 2014 at 03:39. |

Re: Claims by Wildcats from HMS Pursuer 12 Feb 44
For the 12-2-44 I had a He177 of 5/KG40 falling to Lt. Laurie Brander in a Wildcat of 896 Sqd, the crew of Maj. Walter Rieder all missing. On the same day there is a Fw200 7/KG40 with crew of Fkj.Fw Karl Heinz Schairer missing plus two further Conders of III/KG40 damaged in combat, all claimed by Mosquitos of 157 Sqd some 300 miles off the English coast. These are from notes from others peoples research all I have are the NVMs for the missing luftwaffe crews,

Re: Claims by Wildcats from HMS Pursuer 12 Feb 44
Thanks for the help all of you. I now have all the information I need about the claims for destroyed bombers but I am still interested in more info about the claim for a damaged FW 200 if such a claim was made.
Regards, Peter |
