Re: Die Knullenkopfstaffel - Fernaufklärung mit der 1. Staffel/Aufklärungsgruppe 123

Excellent news for Luftwaffe recce fans like me!

A long-awaited new book about Luftwaffe reconnaissance over France, Britain, the Mediterranean and over the Reich
based on the long range recce squadron 1.(F)/123 with 380 photos !!!

The summary of the book reads very promising, well researched and covering numerous extraordinary missions.
(for example reconnaissance over Liverpool and London, Me109 harbour recce and even dropping a parachute spy over UK, ...)

Book details: 336 pages - large format - 380 photos - 12 maps - 10 colour profiles !!!

I will write a review, as soon as book is available.

Excellent , looking forward to this book . Some planes from this unit ended up crash landing in Neutral Ireland and their crews being interned here .

Re: Die Knullenkopfstaffel - Fernaufklärung mit der 1. Staffel/Aufklärungsgruppe 123

Today the book "KNULLENKOPFSTAFFEL" arrived at home. A very interesting book about an exotic LUFTWAFFE theme, a Fernaufklärerstaffel (Long.range reconaissance) from the prewar to the last activities. In 1945 this "Staffel" used the Arado Ar 234 in Action.
There are a few aircraft profiles to show the main aircraft types used, a detailed summary of the losses (often with WerkNr. and Registration), many other Details and 380 photos.
The book is very well produced, high-gloss paper, 336 pages, the photoprint is excellent and the Story is painstakingly researched by Harald Rabeder and makes good reading. Very recommended, published by Flechsig Verlag in Germany and available via Amazon.

Interesting. Is there much about Ar 234 operations?

Re: Die Knullenkopfstaffel - Fernaufklärung mit der 1. Staffel/Aufklärungsgruppe 123

A very interesting chapter indeed. There are 8 pages about training and the missions with the Ar 234. An excerpt from the Flugbuch of Ofw. Jockstedt showing his Training flights. His first sortie in March 45. Other missions from other pilots are described. In the loss-list there are 3 entries of Ar 234, two with Registration and c/n. Things I've never seen before.

The other chapters starting with 1935 are of similar Quality and Details.

Re: Die Knullenkopfstaffel - Fernaufklärung mit der 1. Staffel/Aufklärungsgruppe 123

I've a six photo album set from a Oberleutnant Helmut Höfer, who served with 1 Staffel (F) / Aufklärungsgruppe 123 from Jan 1940 till Jan 1941 as a observer on the plane "Emil" winning EK1. Would be interested to know the details of how he won it ? here's some pictures
