"Chicken Dit" was flown by Gerald L Rounds. The serial number is apparently not known.

Search for Rounds on this:
http://www.bushwings.com/Pages/Adori...20p103-107.htm

There is a photo being sold on e-bay and it appears to me the name on the life vest is "Rounds, G. L." Click on the photo to see an enlarged version.

Brief mention of Reinhardt (given as "Reingardt") (search for 43-2527) here.
http://raf-112-squadron.org/14thfghonor_roll42_43.html

I believe his full name was Arthur Frederick Reinhardt.

Thank you RSwank, that is all I could find on the web, too. I was hoping that someone here might be able to fill in some of the blanks, like maybe the serial number for "Chicken Dit". If it bellied in and was written off there most be an accident report or something similar somewhere, right?

Re: Need info on 2 P-38 losses 1943 North Africa

Hello,
From what I could find,
43-2527
04/17/43 - "56", "Patty II", W/O landing accident, Salvaged 04/17/43.
12/20/43 - Oliver B. Taylor - 1 claim for e/a.
01/10/44 - Oliver B. Taylor - 1 claim for e/a.

12/28/43 Reinhardt, Casablanca, French Morocco.
12/28/43 Crashed,Belly landing, due to engine failure or fire.

But Odd that Reinhardt would be flying Taylors a/c, it must have been a minor accident as Taylor would be flying it again a few days later to claim an e/a ??

Looking for the 82FG a/c

Regarding 1Lt. Gerald L. Rounds.
The July 5th mission was his 51st mission. In all he completed 82 missions . Returning to the USA at the end of September '43.
His five victories were all Bf109's.
He was an 82ndFG original Staff Sgt pilot.
Awards were:
Silver Star ; 2x DFC ; 16 Air Medals.
Picture of Rounds with crewmen T/Sgt. Calvert Wilson & Sgt. Phillip Oswalt, standing in front of "Cadiz Eagle" after Rounds fourth victory.
So name changed after this , wonder why ??
Ref: Steve Blake's "Adorimini- ("Up and at Em!")

That's what I get. 12/28/43 Belly landed and probably written off. I am beginning to thank that 43-2527 was just "Pat" and that ANOTHER P-38G was "Pat II"
