Karl Bugaj, 28 Jul 42 Mosquito IV DK295

Could anyone clarify that Karl Bugaj first arial victory went down near Tilburg, Netherlands (Source: aircrew remembered dot com) on 28 July 1942; my query is that Australian documents say Krefeld, Germany ?

Cheers
Andy Bird

I presume you mean Uffz Karl Bugaj of 11./JG 1? They were based at Bergen-op-zoom at this time and no location is given; his second victory 4 days later was north of Langeoog. I can see no mention of any Allied crash in or around Holland at 1950 hrs on 28 Jul 42

Re: Karl Bugaj, 28 Jul 42 Mosquito IV DK295

Hello,

The Mosquito IV of 105 Sqdn.RAF crashed in the Altwettener woods which is east of Kevelaer, a town in western Germany near the Dutch border. The crew was buried first at Krefeld War Cemetary and this does also fit with the known crashlocation AND the presence of the 11./JG 1 on Bönninghardt airfield.

Best regards, Marcel

Re: Karl Bugaj, 28 Jul 42 Mosquito IV DK295

Hello,

I am interested in the positions of 11. & 12./JG 1 from the summer of 1942 until February 1943.
Thereby I assume 10. Staffel was stationed at Deelen during the period as all sources agree on that.
It's not clear from the on-line sources (ww2.dk and Lexikon der Wehrmacht) where the two other Staffeln were located. They say München-Gladbach but I suspect they were not there all the time.

Kind regards,
Timon
