Have a question: general information that the attack Poltava 200 German aircraft, and has now reached 376? No escorting fighter? No Bf-109? no FW-190? That guide the attack which an He-177 is a KG (KG4?)? In addition, the airport's defense machine gun unit under which the Soviet Union? How many machine guns?

Is the number of USAAF fighters destroyed on the ground by the Poltava attack known with certainty?
Whatever the source, I have always seen the the number of B 17s destroyed reported as being in the mid-forties. However, while Craven and Cate's The Army Air Forces in World War Two states that: "....Besides, fifteen Mustangs and miscellaneous Russian aircraft were destroyed....." (http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/III/AAF-III-9.html, see page 314) IIRC I have seen widely different reports of the numbers of USAAF fighters destroyed. I note that the second post in this thread refers to the destruction of two single engine A/C. TIA |
