Me 410 loss 23/24-8-1943
I believe the crew of U5+EG Fw. Werner Benner and Uffz. Hermann Reimers are shown as dead rather than missing. Is there a record of where they were recovered and buried please. Their loss may link to the claim of Capt, Rad of 85 Sqd. who shot a 410 down off Southwold? (pos.G81) at 0240hrs and reported both crewmen as baling out,

Peter thanks for the information, as far as I know the spelling of the Bf's name is correct, another researcher has told me the notification of his death was in mid November,

Re: Me 410 loss 23/24-8-1943
Hi,
To my knowledge, the BF Uffz. Hermann Reimers is still missing. So I think he drowned in the North Sea and the pilot, Fw. Werner Benner, was rescued and died from his wounds in a Furnes hospital on the 25/8/43. If I can hazard this conjecture... Rgds |

Re: Me 410 loss 23/24-8-1943
Hi, Brian
The loss record was never corrected, thus in the GenQu6Abt records these guys are still listed as missing. http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=112644 Regards, Andreas B |
Re: Me 410 loss 23/24-8-1943
Thanks Andreas, if Cap. Rad reported two crewmen baling out off Southwold it seems unlikely he shot U5+EG down if Benners died at Furnes on the 25th. Benners may then have fallen to F/L Goodman who claimed a 410 at 0250 hrs. off the French coast near Dunkirk. As far as I can tell this leaves crew off Oblt. Schmitter rescued off Zeebugge possibly falling to S/L Arbon who claimed a 410 off Knokke at 0300hrs.and crew of Ltn Barzett ( body of Bf Uffz. Hartmann recovered 19-10-43 ) who either fell to Cap. Rad at 0245 hrs. or W/C Mack who claimed a 410 off Manston at 2315 hrs. These three 410's are shown as lost on the 24th which I understand to be the early morning of the 24th which would seem to link to the RAF claims,
