Erkennungsmarke Nummer 65109 ?
Hello all,
Yesterday I visited an older collector of airwar related items who contacted me because he had a whole bunch of Erkennungsmarken (ID-Tags) with the number 65109. Who can tell me which unit used this number for their personel ? Many thanks in advance, Marcel Hogenhuis / Venlo |

Hi Marcel,
In 1940 this EM 65109 was used by 9/KG77. REgards Joe |
Re: Erkennungsmarke Nummer 65109 ?
Hello Joe,
Thanks for this fast reply! It still does not make sense to me because these ID-tags were discovered in Venlo where - based on 25 years of research - no other bomber units have been as a Staffel of KG 2 and the III./KG 3 (He111 with V-1 Flying Bombs). Again thanks for this piece of the puzzle, Marcel |

Hi, Marcel
Personnel transfers? Not unusual, I have examples of flying personnel with the old disc long time after transfer/unit renaming Regards, Andreas B |
Re: Erkennungsmarke Nummer 65109 ?
Hello Andreas,
As a nightfighter buff, I know that at Deelen once a whole bunch of I./ZG 76 ID-Tags were found which can be linked directly to the knowledge that the I./ZG 76 was used to found the II./NJG 1. The trouble is that I haven't any idea how to explain the finding of such a similar bunch of Erk.Marke number 65109 at Venlo. IF an (to me) unknown unit was formed with personel of 65109 this would be a spectacular new fact in the airfield Venlo history. Thanks for thinking with me! All the best, Marcel |
Re: Erkennungsmarke Nummer 65109 ?
Hi Marcel,
Just one small point, I have been told that unit EM numbers were changed at different times as a counter-intelligence measure! It would be interesting to know how often this happened, and at what intervals? Joe |
