Q: Markings on 11./KG200 FW190F-8
Hi all!
It is fairly "common" knowledge that III/KG200 stayed in Stavanger/Sola for a short while, in February/March 1945. During this period they were working up for a BT700 attack, an attack that eventually was cancelled. During this period 11./KG200 lost/damaged one FW190F-8 at Sola, Wknr 933064, flown by Gefr Josef Wupping. According to E. Knutsson it was marked < E. I have also seen mentioned the loss of one FW190 off Denmark, same unit, that was marked < C (if I remember correctly). Apparently (From other discussions on this forum) the aircraft of KG200 carried various markings. Any qualified guesses on what the marking < E (and C) could possibly mean? My non-qualified points to ponder: - Could they have been aircraft from I./SG5 (From which the unit 11./KG200 formed), still marked with typical SG-markings (maybe an E before the cross and a triangle behind it? - Could the < be a typical adjutant chevron? In that case, would the chevron be right in front of the letter - all in front of the cross? Any input on typical KG200 markings would be helpful. Regards, Kyrre |

Losses from from the 10. and 11. Staffeln (where a marking is given) all had black numbers. It seems likely that they all followed the practice of the Fw 190 F-8 photographed at Rhein-Main and combined this with unit code letters: A3+18. |

Thanks for filling in a lot of blanks, Nick!
I find it interesting how the markings of this Gruppe seems to have been a mix of old, new and improvised types. Intriguing and quite confusing. What seems quite common (Based on the few pictures available) is the use of the code letters A3. Regards, Kyrre |
