Loss of P-40K 42-10083
All
Does anyone know who was piloting this fighter when it force landed after combat on 10 November 1944, whilst serving with the 20 GvIAP? TIA Dave |
Re: Loss of P-40K 42-10083
There was once loss lists of the Aviation of the Northern Soviet Fleet online at this site: http://www.eismeerfront.com/eis_html/poteri.htm
They are no more available on the Net but I saved them. For 10 November 1944, there is only one loss: a Kittyhawk of 78 IAP (not 20 GIAP) that crashed in Murmansk district. The pilot was Mladshii Leytenant M V Tischaev, and he was unhurt. The cause of the loss is accidental. At this date, the probability that a Soviet fighter would be shot down or crashed due to battle damage close to Murmansk was very low. A pilot of 20 GIAP was killed the day before in the crash of his Airacobra on Vaenga-2 airfield. It was the only loss reported for 29 GIAP for the month, and the 78 IAP P-40 reported above for the only P-40 reported loss for the month too. |

I had both 42-10083 and 42-10256 both lost on the same mission. Disoriented, loss of fuel and belly landing. Both recoveed and both now flying. Have small thumbnsil pics of the recovery somewhere and I am sure the pilots names were listed. Will have a look as I wrote about both in the dim distant past. regards Mark Found - not sure why different from Laurent. My info would have been via Rune. 29.09.43 P-40 SNo 42-10256 (Seq-No 1127) of 20 gvIAP disoriented after AB with four Bf 109 of JG 5, LoF, FoL lake 40-45 km S Iokonga. Pilot JLt I.I. Mikhajlov OK. 29.09.43 P-40K-10 US-Serial 42-10083, Sequence-No 954, belonging to 20 gvIAP (1 gvSAD), pilot JLt N.I. Aelkseev (OK). Disoriented after AB with four Bf 109s of JG 5, LoF, FoL lake 40-45 km S Iokonga, Kola peninsula. |
Re: Loss of P-40K 42-10083
Thanks chaps, so seems my date is incorrect then, should be 29.09.43 and not 10.10.44!
Laurent, can you confirm anything on the earlier date? TIA Dave |
Re: Loss of P-40K 42-10083
No I can't confirm it, because my loss list covers only the Aviation of the Soviet Northern Fleet, to which belonged 20 IAP.
20 GIAP was another unit, depending from the 7 Air Army, and I have no data on it. According to the loss list 20 IAP flew a mixture of Airacobra and Yak (-1,-7,-9) during the war, but lost no KIttyhawk/P-40. |

Understood, thanks. No reason to doubt Mark's (Rune's) data. regards Dave |
