Group Captain Frank Cromwell Griffiths DFC AFC Croix de Guerre

I'm trying to trace the early RAF career of Frank Griffiths. He was a pilot with 138 Sqn who was an 'escape and evader' after his Halifax JD180 was lost on 14th August 1943 dropping supplies for SOE.

I know he joined the RAF in 1936 and would be grateful to know where he learnt to fly up to his time at RAF Cranfield with 62 Sqn?

I have details of everything after 62 Sqn right through WW2 to his return and second tour with TFU but I have also seen reference to him being CO of 138 Sqn in June 1945. Is that true?

Thanks in advance

Many thanks for the info on 3FTS - posted yesterday but now missing! I wonder where it has gone?

Quick question; Assuming 'Griff' learnt to fly on the Hawker Hart Trainer, I don't think that would have been the 'ab initio' type on which he got his wings. Was the DH Moth used for that? And after the Hart what was used in 1936-37 to prepare pilots for a two engine Blenheim?
