MAW3-F-4 loss on April 20,1943
I have a question on the loss of a F-4 on April 20,1943 and wondered if anyone could shed some light on this loss.
In MAW3, there is a loss listing for a F-4 reported missing on April 20,1943. The pilot name is missing.(Page 516) Over the years I've tried to create an EXCEL data base with a listing for every MTO Recon loss I could identify. Obviously, the earlier years are a problem before the on-set of common MACRs. Looking through this list I don't have anything for April 20,1943 but I do have a listing for April 25,1943 for a 2nd Lt. James Watson Hatch Jr., O-732244, 5th PRS,3rd PG who was reportedly killed by AA on April 25,1943. There is no listing for a PR Lightning on April 25,1943.? Could this be the loss on April 20? |

Hello,
I think that this a/c must have landed at another field or is recorded as condemned condemned at a later date, as it does not appear in the Joe Baurgh lists which has each of the 119 F-4 listed. Alex |

It could have been an F-5

No Comments? The 3rd Photo group losses are hard to research and the losses are only discernible through ABMC and the NARA POW online files. With the publication of MAW3, I have updated my data base but still would like additional information.

Re: MAW3-F-4 loss on April 20,1943
Hello,
I have only 2 F4 MACR's for the 3rd. While there are about 49 of the 119 that have only later dates of end of service, most if not all in the USA. The F5's of the 3rd I have about 25 or so accident numbers, four of which were fatal and seventeen MACR's. Seven airmen are still missing, Alex |
