Fokker S.IX emergency landing at Knokke airfield (Belgium) during March 1940
 

Hi,

During March 1940 (possibly on 8 March 1940) a Fokker S.IX of the Flying School of Vlissingen (= Flushing, Dutch Air Force) make an emergency landing at Knokke airfield (Belgium) when the pilot encountered dense during a training flight. The pilot and plane returned later to Vlissingen airfield.

Can the date of 8 March be confirmed ? Was the serial of the plane 31 ? Which was the name of the pilot ?

No reports in Dutch newspapers of that time, but found a snippet in the 16 March 1940 issue of the Brugge newspaper Burgerwelzijn.
Little article gives no exact date of the emergency landing at Knokke. Name of pilot only with initial of last name: Corporal-Candidate Pilot "M.".

Book Battle of Britain Then and Now has Fokker S.IV and not S.IX for the Knokke airplane.

Based on your info the article was found in Burgerwelzijn. However no indication regarding the type of the aircraft, so a Fokker S.IV (serials 99 - 128) could also be possible.


According to http://www.lva-40.nl/index.php?optio...d=62&Itemid=67 14 Fokker S.IV were still in service in May 1940.
