photos from RAF Photo Album
Hello,
Currently on ebay are a number of photos captioned as being from the Album of Sgt G.Redhead, the first two appear to have been posted in error, but there may be photos of interest thereafter: https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?item...dhead&_sacat=0 Regards, Clint |
Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
Hello,
Just a quick note to say that further photos have been added since my original post of photos from the album of Sgt G.Redhead, although once again the first couple of items are views of a tabletop, at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?it...dhead&_sacat=0 Regards, Clint |
Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
Beside the two shots of the seller's desk I also found the photo of the Hawker Henley quite interesting.
I think the seller is wrong when he says it is L3269 (which was w/o already on 25 Jan 1940) It is far more likely to be L3289 since we can clearly see the target tug coloured stripes of yellow and black! Cheers Stig PS: So far no one has bid on the desk photos. If you are quick and ask nicely maybe you can get both for the price of one? :D:D |

Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
In the photo of the fuel bowswer, does anyone know what the white circle marking was for. In minature it looked to be a roundal but enlarged it has something written on it?

Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
Larry it's the DTD no. (Directorate of Technical Development) and fuel.....
DTD 224 77 OCT ....................... The Whitley is a Mk.V P4938, 77 Sqn. as KN--C and 19 OTU as UO--CA. Nick |
Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
Poor chap never made it to a Sqn as he was killed with 16 OTU attacking Duesseldorf 31 Jul-1 Aug 42

Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
Thanks for the DTD number. I have not seen this before . More typical is just a white circle with 100 inside it - Presumably 100 octaine, so is that just 77 Octaine in the photo, and not much good for an aero engine?

Re: photos from RAF Photo Album
DTD224 was cancelled as "Obsolete"; up to mid-1940 80/87 was the standard (then 100/130) so "77" may have been a pre-war substitute.
There were higher grades like 150 in some Eighth AF P-51s and 160 tried in a Spit VIII for "Basta" trials. This is a 1944 DTD listing, Australian printing but UK M.A.P. material specs. I'm only really interested in those relating to "aircraft finishes". http://silverbiplanes.com/SPECIFICAT..._BY_NUMBER.PDF Regards Nick |
