Lost Luftwaffe Battle of Britain grave
On September 6th 1940 a BF110 from1 /Erpro GR210 was shot down by No 1 Squadron. It crashed Flow Meadow, Foyle Fasrm Crowhusrt.
The pilot Gerhard Ruger was killed along with his gunner and it is reported that his remains were buried on the spot by local troops who arrived on the scene. The burial spot was then lost over time. Has he been found and recovered to Cannock Chase or is he still missing |
Re: Lost Luftwaffe Battle of Britain grave
As he is not listed on the Volksbund website (http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche/content_suche.asp), my guess is that he was not found and reburied in Channock Case, as the men buried here are all listed by this website AFAIK.

Re: Lost Luftwaffe Battle of Britain grave
The remains of Gerhard Ruger were 'disposed of' by local troops and received no formal burial, the burial site being unmarked and unrecorded. As such, he remains oficially 'missing'. See Blitz Then & Now Volume 1 p315.

Hmmmmm......
But his Bordfunker, Edmund Ernst, certainly was not killed. He bailed out into captivity. Met him in the 1980s. |

Hi John.
My apologies, his gunner did indeed survive the encounter. |
