I don't have the names of any pilots. I do have the following successes:

From Airwar 1941 John Forman:
24 Jan 41 Hundson P5123 223 Sqn FTL Erie after combat KuFlGr 406
22 Oct 41 Catalina AH413 413 Sqn shot down off Norwas 2/KuFlKr 406

Black Sea
claim at a unknown date and location

Submarine claims:
L-6 cause unknown possibly 16 Apr 44 UJ-115 and Bv-138 or 18 Apr 44 UJ-104 or 27 Apr 44 UJ-105
L-23 cause unknown possibly 17 Jan 44 UJ-106 or 18 Jan 44 F-239 or J0 Jan SAGr 125

M-118 likely lost AukGr 125

Good morning James,

I don't necessarily mean aerial kills.
This article provides a very good impression of the BV 138 service:
https://www.key.aero/article/flying-clog
but the pilots mentioned therein represent rather the losses.
Is any pilot known who achieved something positive ?

I wish you a good fourth Advent,
Michael

Documents contains some Bv.138's successes, but without any names or even plane's specifications as code or Wr.Nr.

A real workhorse.
For Xmas I wished for the OSPREY Do24 volume.
The number of BV138's built is higher than the number of Do24's.
Do you think there will be a BV138 OSPREY volume one day?
The writer could combine it with the BV222...

Now you're talking, the 222 is a really interesting subject.

I've found only one pilot of a Bv138 unit who was decorated with the German Cross in Gold: Oblt. Kurt Thiele, member of the Trondheim-based 2./406, got this decoration on 24.June 1943. No further infos of this officer

Good evening Bakerman,

thanks for the name!

Good evening Vince,

yes and the most notable BV222 pilots is Modrow, insn't he ?

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Blohm & Voss BV 138 - successful pilots

I have some 12 BV 222 pilots listed in a FB and Modrow (who was also a Do 26 pilot) is not one of them, he coming into prominence as a night fighter pilot. To say these pilots were notable for doing transport jobs is a difficult one to prove

Good evening Chris,

according to "Vikings sur la Méditerranée: L'hydravion géant BV 222 aus service du Luftverkehrsgruppe et de la LTS (See) 222 en 1941-1943" 2nd part by Hans-Werner Neulen p41 Oblt. Modrow flew BV 222 V5 "X4+EH" on 9Dec42.

Best greetings from Switzerland,
Michael
