Luftwaffe generals sons

I was reading a mag about W v Richthofen. In the article it mentions that his son was in the Luftwaffe during the war and was KIA. Any one know the details? I was also wondering if any other Luftwaffe generals or higher party ups had their sons in the Luftwaffe?

Re: Luftwaffe generals sons

As far as sons of Wolfram Richtofen are concerned, I do not know if he had had any, let alone in the Luftwaffe but possibly one or more of these could be sons of his:

RICHTHOFEN, Heinz, Freiherr von. (DOB: 10.05.98). 01.09.42 promo to Obstlt.(Wm.).
RICHTHOFEN, Johannes, Freiherr von. 26.07.41 Hptm. and Staka 6./ZG 26, KIA – in Bf 110 E-2 shot down in the Lake Ilmen area.
RICHTHOFEN, Wolfgang, Freiherr von. (DOB: 29.11.10). 1937 Hptm., appt Staka 8./KG 157 (to 00.38). 01.04.39 Hptm., appt Staka 6./KG 27 (to 13.09.39 KIA).

As for sons of other “higher ups” in the Luftwaffe, it appears that Göring had a couple of nephews in it. One was:

GÖRING, Hans-Joachim. 11.07.40 Oblt., 9./ZG 76 KIA shot down by Hurricanes crashed and exploded on impact with cliffs at Verne near Portland with such force that no remains were ever found. – was Herman Göring’s nephew. 01.06.41 promo to Hptm.

As for sons of other generals, I am not going to go through looking at all 730 Generals to find out. On the other hand, if someone has specific requests I shall look into it.

DGS.

In either his Top Guns book or the JG 26 War Dairy series, Donald Caldwell mentions a Peter Goring as a nephew of the Reichsmarschall and who was KIA flying with JG 26; IIRC, Peter Goring was hit by return fire from Blenheims.

I also saw a photo of Hubert Greim, the son of Luftwaffe Generalfeldmarschall Robert von Greim (also a WWI fighter ace who won the Pour le Merite), in Holger Nauroth's JG 2 Richthofen A Photographic History. IIRC, as a JG 2 fighter pilot, he was shot down and spent the rest of WWII as a prisoner.

The son of General Student was killed as pilot of JG 77 during Market Garden.

Cheers,

Re: Luftwaffe generals sons

I believe Ohfr. Ruthardt von Richthofen of 10/JG2 (Fw 190A8 730909) shot down on 13-7-44 by Argentan was a nephew of the Red Baron. Another researcher said he bailed out but was killed by French Civilians and was buried in a field grave, whether this was a local myth or not I do not know.

Re: Luftwaffe generals sons

Some other relative of Wolfram v. Richthofen was pilot in II./SG2 and died in summer 1944 in Romania, don't have the details here right know.

Another "relative" was Nicolas J., a nephew of Jeschonnek, who served as a fighter pilot in JG52 and died in August 1943 during a soviet bobing raid on Anapa.

Re: Luftwaffe generals sons

I assume the son of General Hans Jeschonnek Nikolaus was killed on 05.08.43 with JG52. Maybe it was one point for the Jeschonnek suicide?
