Unidentified "wolf hook" insignia on a Ju 88A
Another photo went on eBay yesterday with an unknown (to me) insignia. It is auction number: <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6273787290&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1> and appears on a crash-landed Ju 88A, probably in 1940 or 41.
This insignia is listed as unidentified in Ketley and Rolfe and is described as a "A 'wolf Hook' (an ancient Germanic runic character supposedly capable of warding off wolves)." Can anyone identify the unit to which this aircraft belongs, or any info on the date, place and circumstances of this crash-landing? Any help on this would be appreciated. |
