Re: Photos + 5-11-05
Hi,
the third photo of Bf109`s group shows an a/c from JG53 (the part of crest is visible next to air intake). This white 5 ~is from 7/JG54. Regards Robert |

Re: Photos + 5-11-05
Hi Robert:
I am curious how you determined that weisse 5 + ~ is from 7./JG 54? The caption on the back of the photo, which looks original, indicates the photo was taken 30-May-42 in Russia. My information indicates that the only 7./JG 54 loss that day was a 40% damaged in an emergency landing due to engine trouble. This would seem incompatible with the obvious enemy fire tail damage in the photo. |

Re: Photos + 5-11-05
Hi John,
another photos of this a/c are in Barbas "Aircraft of the Luftwaffe Fighter Aces Part 2". This mount was flown by Unf.Gerhard Raimann. But also basing on this photo we see: - a hangar building typical for Siwerskaja airfield (III/JG52 was in this time in South of Russia) - the shape of number 5 and wave line is typical for III/JG54 in this period (large and slim) - beneth the cockpit you can see part of Gruen Herz badge (withe outlined) So there are any reasons to say that this is an a/c from III/JG52 Regards Robert |

Re: Photos + 5-11-05
Well, my only reason was that the damaged tail sorta matches a 40% damage of a III./JG 52 plane that was attributed to "enemy fighters" even though the damage certainly looks more like flak. Your arguments may be better than mine, especially given the hanger.

Re: Photos + 5-11-05
Hi John,
I would like to support roberts argument. See the attached photos. Could you tell us your source of JG54 losses? I am working on a documentation of JG54 history and try to get every possible additional info. Greetings from the sunny Costa Blanca, Spain
