Ju88 crashed on Portland 11/08/40 ....

Can anyone help with details of the above incident? My grandfather was posted from the army to guard the plane after it had crashed awaiting the specialists to come and investigate. I am trying to compile some details for him about this and any help would be appreciated, all I have so far is the aircraft was ?/B3+DC from unit KG54.

There is a photo of this aircraft in Vol. 1 of 'The Blitz Then and Now' with a caption that is was believed that Oblt. Welte was wounded when an LDV post fired on the crew as they were leaving the aircraft. This is also stated in the KG 54 history, another report says that Welte lost a leg as a result of the shooting has this been ever comfirmed,

Kagerbauer said in his letter to me that it was the Hurricane's second attack which cost Welte his leg. I have two photos of the crash-landed aircraft plus a number of the crew

Hi Chris,
trying to tie up some loose ends, so to speak!

The Kagerbauer you refer to in this old thread.. is this Gottfried?

If so he was also involved in an incident prior to Battle of Britain ( 28.6.40 ) when the Junkers 88 he was flying in, forced landed at Quackenbruck suffering 50% damage.

source Siegfried Radtke's KG54 Eine Chronik Documenten Und Berichten 1933-1945. Pg280.

Best regs,
Steve.
