Unknown Bf109G-6(14?) of JG 53

I was wondering if anybody could tell me anything about this Bf109G-6 or Bf109G-14? As always, thanks for your help.

thanks! is there really only half of the fuselage Balkenkreuzes showing? or is the lower half covered? also, the WNr. on the center rudder appears to be in white. is this normal for this block number?

Obesrt, that is an extremely well known photo for at least 30 years. Unfortunately the copy you attached has too much contrast to see correctly details.

In Falcon's site (http://www.me109.info), looking under Bf 109 G-14,
the Foto-ID: 729 is a much lighter version and there you can see that there is no Werke Nummer in white on mid-rudder, but instead it is (more commonly) present in black in lower position.

Concerning the
apparently "half" Balkenkreuz, although faint, traces of the other lower "half" can be seen and this was not too much unusual, especially when mud, dirt and grime when taxi-ing were spattered all along lower fuselage.

Hope it helps.

Hello guys,

should be a Bf 109 G-6, not a G-14. Built at Messerschmitt Regensburg late August/early September 1944. Most probably last G-6-block from Vilseck/Amberg-Schafhof site, prior to switching to K-4 and G-14AS.

You're welcome. Just for your info the first time I remember it was in "Luftwaffe Camouflage & Markings vol.3" by Smith & Gallaspy, Kookaburra Editions, 1977 on page 141...

Thanks also to Charles, whose contribution is always extremely precious. Apparently this aircraft fell within the "hazy" area between late G-6/early G-14...
