Verbindungsstaffel General der Schlachtflieger emblem

This emblem has appeared in an eBay Luftwaffe photo album here. There are not many aircraft in the album, so it might not be an air unit. Aircraft which are present include several Ju87. The emblem is placed next to photos taken in Italy, although again there might not be a direct connection.

I assume that the letters in the top left hand corner are GdS. I can only find this in use with Umschulstaffel GdS (General der Schlachtflieger). The unit had Ju87s and was used to reform 8./StG151 in August 1944…. But I can find absolutely nothing else about this unit? ….it could explain the Ju87s in the album. Any further details on this unit and/or the emblem would be much appreciated.

Andy Mitchell over at http://www.forums.luftwaffedata.co.uk has been able to identify this emblem as Verbindungsstaffel General der Schlachtflieger. I’m pleased to see I was correct about the ‘GDS’, although not about the actual unit. I assume that this was a headquarters liaison unit communicating with the various Schlachtflieger units? That would probably help to explain the wide geographical range of photos in the album….. although I can find absolutely nothing about this unit in my sources.
