Werner Hoffmann

Hi guys

Would anyone have the loss list information for the incident in which Major Werner Hoffmann (51 victories, RK), Gruppenkommandeur of I./NJG 5, was shot down and forced to bale out on 29 June 1944? By any chance, would there be any similar information regarding the incident when he was shot down and forced to bale out on 20 January 1944 while also serving with the Gruppenstab of I./NJG 5? The second incident I rather doubt as it appears that he was not wounded but it would be worth looking into. Many thanks.

Horrido!

Leo

Hello Ross

Many thanks for your response to my question. It appears that for the time being the most one can infer about the aircraft that he was flying on both occasions is that they were Bf 110 G-4 types as this is what I./NJG 5 was equipped with at the time of the incidents. Too bad but it is the best we can do for now.

Horrido!

Re: Werner Hoffmann

Hi Leo,

I have the following from his logbook:

20 January 1944, flying Bf 110 C9 + CB, took off from Stendal at 18:30, bailed out at 19:45 after claiming his twentieth night aerial victory, a Lancaster, in the Berlin area. Crewmen were Koehler and Modl.

29 June 1944, flying Bf 110 C9 + CB, took off from St. Dizier at 00:05, bailed out at 01:10. He claimed his 33rd night aerial victory, a four-engined bomber. Crewmen were again Koehler and Modl. This was his 157th combat mission.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Hi Leo the following link http://tinyurl.com/84jsjr7 gives 64 site mentioning a Werner Hoffmann, some refer to the person you are inquiring about, others may not. I have not looked at them.

Kind regards
