Was Oblt Werner Poppenburg who was KIA 05Dec44 flying with 5./JG 301 the same individual as Oblt Werner Poppenburg of 7./KG 51 who was awarded the DKiG 07Nov42.

Yes it´s the same Oblt.Poppenburg. I possess his photo-albums from 1936-1943, some documents and other.Photo-W.Poppenburg

Thanks for confriming that. Do the documents give the date he served with 7./KG 51 until and his unit assignments until the time of his death.

No! Until the time in 7./k.G.51 ,31-1-1943,and II.7k.g.101. the last document is a letter to his mother of the 27-11-1944. In this letter he discribed the airbattle of the 26-11-1944 near Brunswig. He flew for the 10./J.G.301 and claimed 3 B-24 in seven minutes.
