Unknown device on Tuck's Hurricane

Dear all,

I am not able to recognize the device behind the gun sight (similar to a black box) carried by the Hurricane V6864 flown by Stanford Tuck; any suggestions?

Thank you

Re: Unknown device on Tuck's Hurricane

Assuming the photo was taken before an op could it be that the object is a folded up map placed there while the shot is being taken or even a book!

Re: Unknown device on Tuck's Hurricane

Thank you for the replies.

However according with one guy from britmodeller this device could be a "dimming screen", used by the pilot to cut down the dazzle from the sun.
See here for some photos of this device: http://spitfiresite.com/2010/07/anat...e-cockpit.html.
