366th and 36th FG Airbattle 21 Nov 1944

Who is the pilot in the P-47 lost by 36th FG (MACR 10580) on that day? Was he engaged in the same air fight as the 366th FG?

Beside the losses mentioned below the 48th FG lost two P-47 (MACR 10581&10582) south of Euskirchen.

Sixteen aircraft were sent to escort B-26 bombers striking rail bridges in the Cologne area , but the bombers did not show up.
The escort were then vectored by MARMITE to the Düsseldorf area to investigate bogeys coming in from the east. They climbed to 18.000 feet and identified 60 Me-109 below them at 13.000 feet. They attacked out of the sun in a perfect set up and in a ten minute dogfight claimed ten enemy aircraft shot down.
Capt Struth was shot down in the dogfight and was killed.

Re: 366th and 36th FG Airbattle 21 Nov 1944

P47 serial number 42-27340 from the 36 th Fighter Group, 23rd Fighter Squadron coded "7U - ".
As you say MACR 10580.
Should give pilots name/rank.
My gues is that it was 2Lt. Herbert A. Williamson O-766817 who died on the 25th November 1944,perhaps surcoming to wounds.

No confirmation but I think that it was 2Lt. Donald E. GOOD 0-716107 (POW - Stalag Luft 1)
Lt. Williamson's P-47 (42-28405) crashed in Belgium on the 25th November 1944 during a training flight.

Hello Joerg
