Intruder activity October 5th/6th 1944

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if there was any German intruder activity over East Anglia on the above date. I have an intruder alert was given to returning crews from Saarbrucken.

TIA

Steve

Re: Intruder activity October 5th/6th 1944

Steve: Should be on the Luftwaffe board. Bit late for intruders as the Me 410s were otherwise engaged over France and the Low Countries. They did return en masse in March 1945 though...

Intruders are unlikely at this time of the war, but this same night He 111 were off East Anglia to launch V-1s towards London. One of them was shot down 50 miles off Great Yarmouth.

The Me 410 intruder unit, II./KG 51, was either converting to the Me 262 in Bavaria or about to go there by this time.

There were V-1s plotted inbound, following launches off the Dutch coast by 11 Heinkels of III./KG 3.

Re: Intruder activity October 5th/6th 1944

Gents,

Thank you all. Would the He111 been classed as an intruder, and would have it affected returning Bomber Command aircraft from landing in the region?

Thanks again.

regards

Steve

Not as such but it would be a potential incursion into U.K. Airspace albeit they would not get close to the coast. Their targets were not airfields but major cities
