Luftwaffe Air Sea Rescue Aids

Apparently Luftwaffe aircrew had canisters of dye to release if the ditched, which turned the sea a florescent yellow, so as to allow them to be seen more easily from the air. What was this dye or substance they used? Was there an Allied Aircrew equivalent?

Re: Luftwaffe Air Sea Rescue Aids

It was a yellow/green Fluorescein Dye. Fluorescein is a florescent organic dye. In the rescue markers it is in the form of fluorescein sodium,

C20 H10 Na2 O5 (a water soluble salt of fluorescein).

The allies used similar markers.

Does anyone know what chemical the dye was made of?
