what a RAF GPTU flight ?

Good evening

I am trying to figure out was a RAF GPTU flight ?
was this a training unit?
could it mean GENERAL PURPOSE TRAINING UNIT
if what was their roles?
Because I am looking for information on the following Airman

TURNBULL, DOUGLAS ELLIOT
W Op/ AG
serving in GPTU flight
RAFV
died on 19/02/1945
service no. 136387
He is buried Bath (Haycombe) cemetery

His brother
TURNBULL ROBERT ARTHUR FELIX RAFVR
W.Op./AG
was killed on 02/01/1943 while in No.7 OTU
buried at Drumachose Christ Church of Ireland.

Both were related appear to be brothers, parents living in Mexico.

any information would be helpful

thanks in advance
Santiago

GPTU Glider Pick-Up Training Unit.

The Dakota (TS436) crash in which Turnbull was killed (A total of 20 men died in the crash) is described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Zeals

See Section on Dakota Crash 19 February, 1945.

Glider Pick-Up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glider...k-up_technique

It appears that both of the brothers attended Truro School in Cornwall from 1933 to 1937. Both are mentioned in a Memorial Service held at the school in 1948:

A little on the school: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truro_School

The Turnbull's appear to be part of the Cornish Colony in Mexico.
Search for Turnbull on this list: http://www.cornishmigration.org/html/mexico_index.html
