Ju-88 claimed by 103 Sqn Lancaster on May 23/24 1943

Hello everyone

On the night of May 23/34 1943, Lancaster W4323 PM-C2 of 103 Squadron was on its way back from Dortmund when it became involved in a combat from 02.18 hours with a Ju-88, in which the mid-upper gunner claimed the Ju-88 as destroyed.

The Combat Report records that the combat started at 52.05º N 06.40º E, flying at 18,000 feet. The Ju-88 made some nine attacks, rendering the rear and mid-upper turrets unserviceable. The mid-upper gunner, Sgt. Ferrell, managed to rotate his turret manually, and on the last attack the Ju-88 flew throught his field of fire, and was seen to heel over and dive into the ground by three other members of the Lancaster crew.

The co-ordinates are I think in South East Holland, approximately half way between Arnhem and Gronau.

Is there a corresponding Ju-88 (or other type) loss for this date, time and area?

Many thanks,

Regards

Simon

I can see nothing first look in the usual sources. Another optimistic Bomber Command claim it would appear at first glance but no doubt Theo Boiten will give the answer one way or the other

Many thanks for the reply Chris.

I just wanted to double-check if there was an actual loss that corresponded, and as sometimes the case, there may be a question mark over it.
