Stabskompanie I./JG 54
Hi,
Could someone please help me with the following query. What was the scope of duties of the Stabskompanie? I have found a reference that the Chef der Stabskompanie was responsible for the smooth running of the unit, and that he had some 260 men to help him doing so. Judging by the quoted manpower, I understand that the Stabskompanie was tasked with procurement for the whole Geschwader, and that it was only formation-wise subordinated to Stab I./JG 54. Is my understanding correct? Furthermore, their mascot was a Schreckensteiner. Were Schreckensteiner some sort of military police in the medieval times? Any reference, please? Regards, Sidney |

Re: Stabskompanie I./JG 54
Holá Sidney,
first to the Schreckensteiner, the mascot was invented by ?? from a popular comic book series in the 3rd Reich, called "The adventures of the Schreckensteiner". I have attached the cover of the starting book, see the figure on the very left. But for the principle of Stabskompanie of JG 54 I would like to dock on to your queries. Could you please contact me by pm, at present I am doing my private research on history of JG 54 and could be possible at help for you, cheers Horst Schmidt

Re: Stabskompanie I./JG 54
Sidney,
You may want to check Josef Prillers Geschichte einers Jagdgeschwaders - JG 26 - on several pages the outline of a Stabkompanie in general has been given. Regards, Rob

Re: Stabskompanie I./JG 54
Nice to know the origin of the emblem seen here with P/O Caister of No. 603 Sqdn brought down by von Bonin of I./JG54 on 6 September 1940.
